23 December 2006 | Noorwegen, Oslo
Last week I went on a trip to the county Nordland, about 1200km far from Oslo. On monday I have used, the metro, train, plain, ferry and bus to get there:). I flew to Bodo.
Finally I arrived in the small fishing village A:) I found the reception of the hostel, but there was a note on the door. If no one was there you had to call a number and no one was there! And I don't have a working phone! So I thought "Oh no! I tried the call box, but that phone didn't work. I decided to look for a house where the lights were still on and there were only a few of them. I noticed that the houses didn't have doorbells, so I had to knock on a window. Fortunately someone opened the door. It was an old man who didn't speak English, so I had to try it in norwegian :o ! Surprisingly enough I got what I wanted and even more because he called the owner of the hostel for me! 8) The owner came and showed me the hostel. I was the only guest, so I could do what I wanted, which was fun hehehe. On tuesday I looked around in the neighborhoud, it was snowing and pretty cold, but very lovely:).
On wednesday I took the bus to Bognes, which took me about 9 hours. Although I didn't expect the bus to show up, since the bus stop was in the middle of nowhere, he did and I was very pleased with that!:) The bus journey was really cool because the landscape was overwhelmingly! The Lofoten is a group of islands north of the city Bodo and above the polar circle. Typically are the steep mountains and the numerous small fishing villages. It's a pitty that it got dark very early. Twice the bus got on a ferry. In the evening I arrived at the Tysfjord Turist Center in Bognes. I had booked a killer whale (orka) safari there for thursday. When I woke up that day I heard the wind blustering and I thought "ohoh!" :o There was a killer whale lecture at 8.30. This was pretty interesting, now I know that killer whales can't sleep, or else they drown. When they are resting they're still moving slowly. And after the lecture mmmmmm -now I can act like I forgot my camera, but in reality they told us after the lecture that all the safaris where cancelled that day!:o :(:( This was quite a dissapointment of course! Last year they had cancelled only 7 out of 90 safaris! We switched to plan B, which was a 'nature safari' to a lighthouse. To get there we drove about an hour and the landscape that we crossed was wonderful. It looked like tundra. They lighthouse was nice, but I would have preferred the killer whale safari of course mmm. We ate fish soup with bread on an old whale hunt ship (with harpoon!), which was kind of ironic I think haha:). Later on we went back to the turist center, where the captain of the boat showed us a movie about his own whale/sea egales safaris. So they made us see, hear and read the movies, the pictures, the advertising brochures and the lecture about killer whales, but in the end we haven't seen them in real life :doubt:. Too bad:(, but....definitely a good reason to return! Maybe someone wants to join me next time?:D The next day I took the bus from Bognes to Bodo, which took about 4,5 hours. I travelled together with a dutch couple from the Netherlands. Lots of dutch people there! Woooow and again the bus journey was amazing! We crossed two national parks, where the nature was very rough, with only fjords, forests and snow covered mountains. One time the bus skipped , woww that was really scary, because at that moment we drove downhill and the driver could not really control the bus and the woman next to me was shouting, which made it even more scary hahaha! But we survived, which is good because I don't want to die yet of course :D
At 14.00 we arrived in Bodo, the capital of the Nordland county. I said ha det bra to the dutch couple. It was really storming, but I had to wait for my flight in the evening so I decided to look around in the center. It was hard to walk, because of the wind! I went to the Nordland museum. There was a exibition about Bodo. It was cool to see something from the city without being outside in the rain, the storm and the darkness haha!:D I was the only visitor and when I wanted to leave the museum guy asked me "oh, are you leaving already? Don't you want to see the movie???" I didn't sound too intersting  but I didn't want to offend him and I thought "well why not, whatever" 8) haha so now I know everything about Bodo and its history . After this I walked to the airport, where I had to wait for many hours, which was reallyyyyyy boring, but I didn't know what else to do. My flight would leave at 20.45, so I was glad when it was almost time. Unforntunately my flight was delayed because of a snowstorm, so I had to wait for another hour :doubt: blughhhh! Finally we could leave. From Oslo airport I took the train to Oslo central where I was just in time to see the last metro to Kringsja leaving :doubt:. I decided to take another one and went walking the last part. The weather was nice, and it seemed like it had snowed a bit in Oslo. When I got home I saw one of my inmates sneaking out of the small hall where me and my neighbor live. She looked very suspicous and she said "Oh, I didn't expect you to be back already" And this morning my neighbor baked a cake for her haha! Whoehoe!;)
Well, this is it for now. I'm really looking forward to the day that Eveline and Merel are coming :) oh and merry christmas ofcourse:p
P.S. because of the wind, rain, snow, darkness and moving busses it was kind of hard to take good pictures. I do have some small landscape movies:p They're probably boring for you but here are the links haha!
